Oh my, I SO agree with you, Jeanne! When everywhere we turn we are confronted with great need, doing nothing is not an option. We must: Just. Start. Somewhere. Thanks for your response!

A young mom here saw how expensive diapers were and started an outreach by collecting donations of diapers, all sizes, and giving them to young single moms with little income. God has grown this act of love and kindness into a foundation, Moms Helping Moms. She has so impressed me with her story.
We alll need to Just.Start.Somewhere.

Thank you for reaching out, Ronnalee! I don’t think the saying ‘Misery loves company’ is as true as ‘Misery NEEDS company’. We were never meant to go through our sufferings alone. Sometimes just the awareness that other people are suffering – even people we do not know – can help us feel less lonely and give us the courage we need to face our trials. Thank you for your words of encouragement!

You do not know me but I stumbled upon your Lament for Heidi some time ago and shared on my FB. It’s very rare that I share on FB but your words so reflected my feelings from previous losses. Thank you again for using your gift of words and expressing my heart. It’s time to open the door and share what God has given us. Please keep listening to the Spirit and writing.

Thank you for this last post. If says exactly what my heart is feeling. Cal and I have just returned from Kenya after serving 4 months as dorm parents at a boarding school for missionary kids. (The regular dorm parents were stateside for medical reasons and we filled in until their return.) Even though Rift Valley Academy is a “comfortable” place we went “outside the gates” as often as possible and interacted with the national people. It has forever changed me.
We returned to the states on November 29 right in the rush of the holiday season. We needed to take Jill to a mall in Dallas for her to meet with friends for a Christmas party. (Jill doesn’t drive because of her cerebral palsy.) While we waited Cal asked if I wanted to go shopping. I couldn’t, just couldn’t go into any store. I was sickened with the materialism and bling/glitz all around me. (Besides, our Christmas shopping was finished thanks to our new friend and carpenter, James, who carved nativity sets for us from his little shop down the hill from the school.) And I still am troubled by America. We want to go back to Kenya someday, but now we are intentionally working on being a blessing right where God has planted us.
